Brief roles and workstreams into a matrix

Start with project name, role list, and workstreams—not a blank grid. Empty “make a RACI” prompts invent owners. After scope is locked in a Project Charter Generator, feed those stakeholders here so every row maps to real work.

Four soft R/A/C/I definition cards beside a Task owners list assigning PM, Design, Eng, and Legal to Brief–Launch.

Assign R, A, C, I with one Accountable rule

Ask for Responsible doers, exactly one Accountable owner, Consulted experts, and Informed stakeholders per task. A revise pass that splits dual As beats regenerating. For recurring process owners, align steps with the SOP Generator.

Soft swimlane board with PM, Design, Eng, and Legal lanes and task chips placed under R, A, C, and I columns.

Map ownership across role swimlanes

Cut dual Accountables, empty Responsible cells, and Consulted lists that bottleneck decisions. Keep the approved brief attached for kickoff. Sequence delivery with the Roadmap Generator, or capture decisions in Meeting Minutes Generator notes.

What you can do with Ottermind

Clarify a product launch

Assign accountable owners and contributors across research, design, engineering, legal, marketing, sales, and support.

Coordinate incident response

Map detection, communication, mitigation, recovery, review, and follow-up so urgent work has one clear decision owner.

Run a content operation

Define who drafts, reviews, approves, publishes, and measures each recurring content deliverable.

Untangle a transformation program

Expose missing owners, overloaded approvers, and unnecessary consultations across a multi-team initiative.

How to use this RACI matrix generator

Step 01

Lock roles and workstreams

List project, roles (prefer titles over personal names), workstreams, and any known decision owners. Refuse “give me a RACI template” with no context.

Step 02

Generate the filled matrix

Produce a grid the team can argue with: who does the work, who signs off, who must be consulted, and who only needs updates.

Step 03

Run an ownership and load pass

Confirm every Accountable has authority, then share. Hire owners with the [Job Description Generator](https://ottermind.ai/tools/job-description-generator) when a role gap is the real blocker.

Why creators choose Ottermind

Context before blank grids

Brief real roles and workstreams so this RACI matrix does not open with invented owners and empty cells.

Kickoff context retained

Keep role debates and accepted owners organized while you refine the same matrix.

Focused ownership passes

Ask separately to split dual As, trim Consulted bottlenecks, or rebalance overloaded Rs.

Compare matrix angles

Generate a lean vs full RACI from the same brief before you lock decision rights.

Planning continuity

Turn locked owners into sequenced delivery with the Roadmap Generator.

Continue in Studio

Take the accepted matrix into Studio with the original role brief still attached for final polish.

Frequently asked questions

What is a RACI matrix?

A RACI matrix maps each project task to Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed roles. In Ottermind, you supply roles and workstreams, generate a filled grid with collaborating agents, then revise for the one-Accountable rule. It does not replace team agreement or invent authority you did not provide.

What should I include in the prompt?

Include project name, role titles, workstreams or deliverables, and any known decision owners. Vague “write a RACI” prompts usually invent people or leave dual Accountables.

Why only one Accountable per task?

Exactly one Accountable keeps decision rights clear. Multiple As create circular approvals and stalled escalations. If two leaders must agree, split the workstream or keep one A with the other Consulted.

Should I use names or role titles?

Prefer role titles when people change often. Use names only when a specific person already owns the decision and you will maintain the matrix.

Can this invent owners or approvals?

It should not. Instruct the draft to use only supplied roles and to mark gaps. You remain responsible for every Accountable assignment that ships.

What should I create after the RACI matrix?

Lock scope with the Project Charter Generator, sequence work with the Roadmap Generator, document recurring steps with the SOP Generator, or capture kickoff decisions with the Meeting Minutes Generator.
