Linear MCP
Linear MCP lets an agent read and update issues, projects and cycles. Ottermind connects Linear over OAuth with read access by default — write scopes stay off until you grant them.
What is Linear MCP?
Linear MCP is Linear's official Model Context Protocol server, offered as a hosted remote endpoint rather than a package you run. It exposes the issue tracker's core objects — issues, projects, cycles, teams and comments — which makes it well suited to the recurring questions of a sprint: what moved, what slipped, and who owns what.
What Linear MCP gives an agent
Issue queries
Filter by team, cycle, assignee, label or state, and read an issue with its description and comment history.
Cycle and project context
See what a cycle contains and how it is progressing, which is the unit most standups actually care about.
Create and update
Open a well-formed issue or change status, assignee and estimate, once you have granted write access.
Hosted, not installed
Linear runs the server itself, so there is no package to install or keep up to date.
What the agent can do with Linear
- List issues by team, cycle, assignee or label
- Summarize what moved in the current cycle and what slipped
- Draft a well-formed issue from a bug report or a chat thread
- Update status, assignee or estimate once you approve the change
How to connect Linear
- 1Open Settings → Connectors in Ottermind.
- 2Sign in to Linear. Read access is granted first; write scopes stay separate.
- 3Ask for the outcome you want — the agent picks the tools.
Linear MCP questions
What is Linear MCP?
Linear MCP is the Model Context Protocol interface to Linear — it lets an AI agent call Linear directly instead of asking you to copy data across.
How do I connect Linear to an AI agent?
Open Settings → Connectors in Ottermind and sign in to Linear. Read access is granted first and write scopes stay separate, so you decide what the agent may change.
Do I need to run a local Linear MCP server?
No. Ottermind talks to Linear directly over your authorized account, so there is no local process to keep alive.
Is my Linear data safe?
The agent only reaches what you grant. Access starts read-only where the provider supports it, write operations ask for confirmation before running, and you can revoke the connection at any time.
Does Linear MCP work with Claude?
Yes. Ottermind runs on Claude models and speaks MCP, so once Linear is connected the agent can use it in any task.
